if i can get my hands on a camera in the next couple days, i’ve got some things to show you guys. mine is lost somewhere in all the crap i haven’t unpacked from moving.
this weekend is polini cup #4! i have a LOT of work to do to my ciao before it’s ready! gaah! that’s ok, i’m sure i’ll get it together on time.
things i want to show you;
-my variator mods.
-how i cut the crap out of my kit. i hope i didn’t destroy it!
-crappy fork brace i made.
-other stuff.
i’m going to look around for my camera more tonight before i hit the sack.

man, i don’t know what i did wrong, but the moped karma gods aren’t too stoked on me right now.
firstly, the 4130 was backordered forever. like a couple weeks. it finally showed up and loverboy ian went to pick it up. later on i got this email from him:

So, it turned out that even though there were four of us at the shop when we ordered the 4130, we ended up all agreeing we wanted 2.5 inch outer diameter when really what we had in mind was 1.5 inch outer diameter. I don’t know how it happened, the dangers of group think I guess, or the shops malfunctioning calipers. 2.5 inch is REALLY BIG much too big for a support bar, unless you want your support bar to act as an auxiliary gas tank.
There was a little bit of 1.5 inch at the shop already, enough for my moped and maybe one more. I am going to order another 8 feet of 1.5 inch to replace what I used and for you’re bikes and it’ll be another 40$ or so for the complete length. Online Metals doesn’t do returns so it’ll be another $14 a person for the new bar.

such a bummer. so my options are to spend even more money on new steel for the cross bar (making this a $50 cross bar), or just say fuck a cross bar and do without.
if this were any other moped i would probably say screw it, but if you know ciaos you know how flexy they are, so i think i’m going to have to drop more money on the damn thing.
oh well. it looks like i have two feet of 2.5″ od 4130 tubing to do something with someday.



new old camera!

i was afraid i would have the frame here and a bunch of stuff done before my camera ever got here and i would have to do a post to catch everyone up, but my frame is still sitting at 1977sf and my camera showed up a couple days ago! the frame should be shipped out tomorrow or early next week, though!
but yeah, i was able to pick up the same camera as my old one, a little beat up but still working perfectly, for $50 on ebay. so yeah, once the frame shows up, i’m ready to go! yay!

i am pretty convinced that the springs i have in ciaociao’s clutch were meant for a 1 speed. they were shorter than the stock springs, and a utter bitch to get on. back at blooddrive, the clutch wouldn’t engage proper, and would smoke and glaze over the pads way easy and i’m having the same problem now. i think the springs are over stretched and not letting the clutch fully engage!
that’s fine, i’ve decided to throw the stock springs back in for now and deal with it after the rally.
oh, except what? one of my stock springs seems to be missing? noooooo!
yeah, i need to locate a 3rd stock variated clutch spring, and as soon as possible. gah!
i have a couple friends in town who might be able to help me out.
other than that, carb tuning is going ok, i think! i’m slowly figuring this out! even though the bike won’t go very well thanks to the clutch!
this bike is going to make the creature rally, i swear!

installing malossi clutch springs on a vespa is a total bitch. i am hating life right now.
once i get them in, though, all i have to do is tighten everything down and install the decompress cable and i’m ready to try and start it! omg!
also, fuck a vespa clutch. 😦

update! well, kinda. not much to talk about. i did a bunch of work on the fork swing arms last weekend, have photos but i can’t upload just yet. the bike isn’t going to be ready for portland after all. lame. 😦
however, it should be for blood drive 666! it’s probably better to unveil a new project at one’s own rally rather than a neighbor’s rally anyway, right? right.
this bike has taken a long time to get this close to completion, but i always knew it would take a long time.. it actually has gotten this far much faster than i thought it would! that’s because i was spending money when i shouldn’t have been, like a jerk.
anyways, i hope to update all of you with photos soon. yay!

oh sweet! my headlight showed up today!
the thing is SUPER BRIGHT! 150 lumens for three and a half hours on high! only 92 lumens for 7 hours on low, but even that is brighter than most moped headlights! plus i can swap it over to my bicycles in like 10 seconds! sweet action, for sure!
the whole thing weighs 232 grams, whatever that is! it’s light! no pun intended? eh

you can also see the pink stem and bar ends and white pedals in that pic. neat!

tomorrow i’m going to bent bike with mikemike to check stuff out. i already ordered bars for ciaociao, but it’ll be fun to look around anyway. i’d like to find a smaller rear sprocket for magnomos, but that’s got nothing to do with this blog, so i’ll leave it at that.
anyway, i’m a little tipsy right now, so i’m going to go to bed. night!
