none of my moped blogs have been getting much love lately. i am currently one of three full time techs (one of which is out with a broken collar bone and the other who is moving away) at one of san francisco’s busiest motorcycle/scooter shops. i am also trying my best to run a moped repair shop out of a space i rent from said motorcycle shop, a repair shop that has yet to pay for itself since i opened it six months ago or so. needless to say, i haven’t had much time or spare money to work on my own bikes.
however, i miss them dearly, and hope to be back to working on them before too long. i have picked up a couple projects here and there when i did have a few spare bucks, and i’ve also got big plans for ciaociao.
my hope is that within the next couple months both this blog and the blog will be back in action. i’ve got plenty of work to fill these pages, i just have to find the time to do it!
now i’m going to go and cross post this to the destroymopeds blog.

tired of the lack of updates on ciaociao blog?

that’s because the ciao’s been in reno since the reno rally. i should get it back this weekend, i think! and then it’ll be my daily rider in this 100+deg heat! sweet!

also, if you are looking for something to read, check out my all encompassing moped blog called destroy mopeds.

i got sick of making a new blog for every bike i build, so i made one blog for all my projects! i should have done this years ago, i have like 3 or 4 build blogs that rarely get updated, and here i’m updating the destroy blog nearly every day, sometimes more than once a day! dang.

anyway, check it out if you want! i’ll still be posting here about ciao stuff, but don’t expect very frequent updates.

away we go

i am about three weeks from moving to california, sacramento to be precise. as you can probably figure, i’ve been pretty busy trying to get things ready for the move and the reno rally, which is next weekend! woah.
i haven’t done much with ciao recently, i’ve ridden it around a bunch and it’s the fastest moped in seattle right now i’m pretty sure, but probably not for long. everyone’s always fighting the fight for more speed. once in sacramento i’ll be far from the fastest and it will drive me to chop it up some more! yeah!
i maaay bring it to the reno rally with me, even though i’ll be riding amsy around. if i do, i’ll pull it out for at least one of the rides, you know. just to rip around reno and have fun. you can’t ride doubles on a little ciao, though! and that’s what reno is about, riding doubles. and the gourmet hot dog store. and deep fried pickles. and hanging out drunk at the river. oh man reno!
i’m sorry i don’t have more for your enjoyment, but i have a feeling things are only going to get more nuts once i’m hanging around the motomatic guys all the time. you know how it is. unless you don’t, then you’ll see.
later taters!
yes i stole this from rufus' magnum blog

the portland rally was awesome. i’m sad ciaociao wasn’t ready in time, but i don’t know if the poor thing would have made the 300+ miles i put on ams over the last four days.. and that was some hard riding, too. ams is a trooper, for sure. i haven’t had a chance to give it an oil change or to finally swap out the bald rear tire and i’m about to take it to moped monday. i love that bike.
anyway, real update with the photos i was promising last week either later tonight or sometime tomorrow. sweet!

OT: new bike!

so i know this is off topic and all, but i wanted to share it anyway.
i picked up a 1971 ciao from the original owner yesterday, and the thing is mint. it came with the title, every service record ever, the original ad that came with the bikes, the booklet.. even a cheesy 1970’s half helmet. all for $200!

i’m super stoked on this thing. no idea how many miles are on it, as it’s the base model that didn’t come with a speedo, but it can’t be many.. and it has been kept perfectly stored for the past 20 odd years in the woman’s basement.
i’m keeping this one stock, mostly. i might try a si pipe on it, and a few other little tricks, to get it up to 35mph or so, but i don’t think i’m going to put an expansion chamber or anything on it.

anyways, in the world of ciaociao, things are looking bleak. i hope to work on it at mikemike’s shop this weekend. hopefully i’ll have something to show you guys!
oh, as for the pictures i promised in the last post, i keep doing dumb things like leaving my camera at the shop, or the cable, or the charger.. i gotta get all three of those things in the same location at one time so that i can get them uploaded! and take better pictures of the new ciao!
